Property:

Aluminum Chloride Hexahydrate is easy to hygroscopic moisture, non-combustible and non-toxic. Aluminum Chloride Hexahydrate is easy to be dissolved in water, alcohol, ether and glycerol. Its solution is acidic, decomposition temperature is 100℃. It will release hydrogen chloride when heated.

Usage:

Aluminum Chloride Hexahydrate could be used for water treatment process, medicine and cosmetic products. It may also have other usages at the expert discretion.

How to make 5% aluminum trichloride solution with aluminum chloride hexahydrate?

5% means 5 g/100 mL. Because the final product is aluminum trichloride; Therefore, 5g should be converted into moles of aluminum chloride hexahydrate according to the molar mass of aluminum trichloride. Aluminum chloride hexahydrate itself contains water; Therefore, the water contained in the aluminum chloride hexahydrate itself should be subtracted from the water added later.

Assuming to prepare a 100mL solution, there are 5g of aluminum trichloride inside.Because the number of moles of aluminum chloride is equal to the number of moles of aluminum chloride hexahydrate added, the number of moles of aluminum chloride hexahydrate that needs to be added is 5/133.34 mol.The molar mass of aluminum chloride hexahydrate is 241.43 mol/g, so the mass to be added is (5/133.34)*241.43=9.05g. The number of moles of water carried by these aluminum chloride hexahydrates is: (5/133.34)*6. Because the molar mass of water is 18g/mol, the mass of water carried is: (5/133.34)*6*18=4.05g. Because the density of water is 1g/mL, 4.05g of water corresponds to 4.05mL.

In summary, if you want to prepare 100 mL of solution, you need to weigh 9.05 g of aluminum chloride hexahydrate and add it to 95.95 mL of water.
